*How did you link up with Rural Colours, was it because your a fan of Hibernate?
It was mostly through the bandcamp website. I found a compilation of Hibernate artists for free download there; which I loved. I had been on the lookout for a label that releases music similar to my own for years and years and never found one. Particularly not in Australia. So I sent a few tracks to Jon at Hibernate and he replied almost immediately in the positive; later he asked me about a release on the sub label Rural Colours.
*You've got a release coming out on Somehow recordings, a great micro label. How did this come about?
Timo from Somehow Recordings contacted after he had heard my music from Rural Colours. It was perfect as I was already starting on new work at the time.
*Have you had any approaches to do other recordings since the Rural Colours release?
Not yet. I have been offered to play live a few times. But that is a whole different area. When I started working on new material after this latest release I am feeling a bit more confident about finding a label. Through Somehow Recordings and Hibernate I know of a lot of other labels that release similar music now. Plus if they wanted to release more of music I would be happy with that as well.
*The downloads you have on your site have environmental/weather themes. Do you take inspiration from the weather when writing music or do the titles reflect a mood of the piece?
I would say all my music starts with the weather, landscape and the experience of it from different emotional vantage points. This goes right to the heart of what I am trying to express in my music and to be honest, I am not entirely sure how to express it in words. I express it in my music best; or at least I try to. All my tracks have environmental recordings in them. Even if they are so low in the mix they are only picked up unconsciously. The titles serve a similar purpose. They are like micro poems; often expressing both an environment and an emotion. I have a huge text book filled with words I use to describe the places I am trying to express in my music. I cut and paste, mix and match these words and this is often how I come up with the titles.
*Any news on when the new album will be released and will it be ultra limited?
Yes I am sorting out the artwork with Somehow Recordings now. The album is finished and samples are all up on soundcloud and my facebook page. We are going for around the start of April. I am not sure of the amount yet; it may be ultra limited. But after/if they sell out I will eventually put the entire album up on Bandcamp and my website anyway.
You can check out his website here and don't forget to download the tracks.
